3 Sentenced in Indian Grave Robbery

Three Newbury Park men have pleaded guilty to taking Indian artifacts from a burial site in the Santa Monica Mountains.

Noah Erickson, 22, John Watson, 37, and Fredrick Villela, 40, were each sentenced to 80 hours of community service and 12 months of probation.

Ventura County Sheriff deputies saw them removing items from a Chumash Indian site in March and additional artifacts were found in their homes.

Authorities have not determined who the items will be returned or reburied.
