Catholic Charities to Close Newbury Office
August 2, 2010
Catholic Charities, which provides a variety of services in the local area will close its Newbury Park office this Friday.
The office, located in the Under One Roof building on Hillcrest Drive, served Newbury Park and Thousand Oaks and costs about $40,000 in annual overhead. That money will be redirected toward other activities in the Ventura region.
“Ultimately, the financial feasibility of keeping the office open did not basically pan out,” Perry said. “Looking at our 2010-11 budget, it seemed our operating costs would overrun the money we could be using for services. So we are basically changing the way we provide services in Thousand Oaks so it goes out more in financial assistance to clients,” said Michael Perry, director of Catholic Charities in Ventura, to the Ventura County Star.
The office served approximately 6,300 people in the last year by providing clothing, food, grocery vouches, and utility assistance.
The nearest office serving Newbury Park will be in Moorpark.
