City Suggests Shooting Coyotes

June 23, 2010

Newbury Park residents are advised to shoot coyotes with paintball guns, according to the Thousand Oaks Acorn.

Although Mayor Dennis Gillette says he is unaware of any humans being attacked recently, coyotes can pose a threat to domestic animals and small children.

To counter the treat, city senior analyst Gregg Smith says, “Shooting coyotes with paintball guns is the right thing to do”

The California Department of Fish and wildlife also recommends marking animals to discourage them from coming into contact with people.

Since coyotes are not a protected specials, they can be killed by humans.

Current city policy will only assist residents with the removal of a coyote after is has harmed a human.
