Deputy Shoots At, Misses Alleged Thief in Moorpark

An off-duty Ventura county Sheriff’s deputy shot at a man who allegedly attempted to ram him with a car on Monday night.

The deputy, whose name has not been revealed, was at his Moorpark home when a man reportedly attempted to steal his car. When the deputy confronted the thief, the man allegedly tried to run him over.

According to Captain Don Aguilar of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, the deputy fired multiple rounds at the man in self defense. The man, who was not hit, then fled the area on foot. A lengthy subsequent search by police did not find locate the suspect.

The incident remains under investigation.
