Hikers Rescued in the Hills
March 6, 2010
Emergency workers rescued two Thousand Oak residents after they became disoriented and lost while hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains.
Malibu Mountain Rescue Team members began searching for the pair using night vision goggles and a helicopter but first located another group of lost hikers from Hollywood in lower Zuma Canyon about six hours later. Fredrick Kassel, 28, and Ashley Brooke-Hall, 20, were found shortly thereafter about 200 yards away from the lost Hollywood hikers.
According to Mountain Rescue reserve coordinator Sgt. Tui Wright, Kassel, Brooke-Hall and their dog were airlifted out of the area that he described as “a treacherous canyon.”
