Supervisor Candidates "Tie" in $$-Race

March 23, 2010

Assemblywoman Audra Strickland and incumbent Linda Parks stayed within close range of each other in fundraising during the first two months of the year in the race for Ventura County Supervisor.

Campaign finance reports from Jan. 1 to March 17 showed Parks raised $49,200 and spent $32,854 during the time frame, while Strickland raised $54,865 and spent $55,699 during the period. Parks had $96,790 in the bank with no campaign debts and Strickland had $29,585 in cash and $30,419 in debts.

Although their total funds raised during the first reporting period were within reach of one another, Strickland raised more money in a shorter time period because she didn’t enter the race until February and begin accepting donations until the middle of last month. Additionally, almost $9000 of Strickland’s funds came from money she had raised last year when she was considering running for secretary of state; she transferred those funds to the current campaign. Strickland is a three-term assemblywoman.

However, Parks, a two-term supervisor for the county, has more than three times as much cash on hand as her opponent and has accumulated less debt.

Parks and Strickland—who both live in Thousand Oaks—will meet at the polls in the June 8 primary in a race to represent the Board of Supervisors’’ 2nd District.
